Making time for your network connections

Friday, December 5th, 2014

Making time to find out more about some of my connections in my social media network, I arranged a meet up with Andrew Field at Miskin Manor, Llantrisant, and Cardiff.

Looking through a lens.

When you give someone respect, you also give them space to express who it is they truly are. Without hearing and understanding someone’s ancestry and business history you can only scratch the surface. To measure the quality of a social media connection, you gain a much better insight by meeting them in person and by taking an interest in their business and interests. Andrew is a keen, avid wildlife photographer.

Here are just two of Andrew’s favourite pictures (taken by Andrew himself)

Boardroom insight

I can tell you having met him; he is a man who means exactly what he says and has so much more to offer a person on a social network site, about business. When I joined Ecademy in 2008, Andrew is the first person I have met , ho is Mr. Boardroom himself. Having built a few businesses armed with several business strengths, he is a boardroom all rolled into one. Throughout my meetings with local South Wales businessmen and women, I inevitably see the quizzical look on their faces when I talk about the merits of joining a boardroom, and how we met online through ecademy, the social media network, started and owned by Penny and Thomas Power until they sold it.

I was able to sit back and truly engage with someone who was not trying to sell me anything. Don’t be fooled by his superb shots of lions and elephants roaming in the wild, he is so much more. In his profile he concludes by asking the reader: ‘Did that spark an interest? Feel free to connect if it did, no harm can be done, but be aware I would like to make our connection a little more than just your name on a now, rather large list. I am happy to explore opportunities where I can help, where I have the experiences; and to participate where I have an opinion, so please explore my other networks too’.

So I will continue to keep an eye out for him and my love of Lion wildlife photography, on blog sphere, as he suggests.

I would love to hear from you, if you have met a member through any of your favourite social media networks and learnt something so new and valuable because you took the time to find out?

Do you re-energise your clients?

We can all help each other grow richer in Ecademy

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give”. Winston Churchill

That wonderful quote among so many more by Winston Churchill sets the tone for this blog.

Yesterday I joined Daniel, Phillip, George, Mike, Richard, James and one other young gentleman supporting Daniel’s Leadership Event in London.

I took the decision to do this after re launching a band new corporate gymnasium facility after three years planning (to get others on board) on Tuesday. That re launch was the fourth in twenty two years and I was delighted for the workforce. The current Plant Manager for this automotive plant is young and like Daniel, works all hours. These young entrepreneurs and managers don’t have the luxury of paid support, so rely on the goodwill of other leaders who can help. I suspect this pattern is seen across the economic ‘picture board’ in this country.

After a long train journey from Swansea, putting a spurt on through tube stations and streets to arrive to Smiley faces was a treat! I have to say to you ‘ beautiful Londoners’ you are amazing, guiding millions of visitors, including the odd Taff 😉 through your city, an enormous task.

I learnt much, much more by making this, a four hour trip, to meet Daniel and to hear his passion to make Ecademy succeed was obvious. He’s worth hearing, so please attend ROSEE 3.

I ditto Richard’s comment by repeating ‘Having fun isn’t always a criminal offence’. A gathering of like-minded people. Where else would you have this opportunity?. I had the giggles on more than one occasion, the last being, when the ‘larger than life’ Mike was being a perfect Gent doing his Sir. Walter Raleigh ‘impression’  by warning me of oncoming puddles before leaving for the tube station.

Keep me, keep me on your radar

Saturday, January 21st, 2012

This morning I decided to dance around my kitchen to The Saturday’s singing All Fired Up. feeling very much alert, alive and energised. I’m self motivated and don’t need to wait for someone to fire me up. I hear the words keep me, keep me on your radar and I remember my original networking
Are you on my Radar? blog.

It’s fast approaching that time of the year when we de clutter our living rooms, bedrooms and wardrobes. My daughter worked tirelessly last week (proving that she is indeed on the mend smile ) on clearing out the small room. This extra space room is one I am keen to turn into an office. Thankfully she has method, administration being her strong point, so I am now the proud owner of a neat room with storage files for my paperwork.

I joined Ecademy in 2008. Being disciplined in the belief that value adds to my motivational business service, I spring clean my contact list every Monday, clearing out the debris, or any surplus that takes up too much room. Just when Sam announced he would away from Ecademy for awhile, I decided to take a closer look at my original network connections to see who invited me to connect when I joined Ecademy and who I still write, phone, Skype or indeed have had a few 1-2-1’s with. It’s also an exercise which highlights those who have never kept in touch or who have left for other reasons.

Have you taken a closer look at your network contact list lately? How many have you connected with and how many would you like to keep on your radar?
