Reinforcing positiveness

Deanna Cook sent me a tweet “Smile and, then, Think #Sparkle. #GrandSlam @ecademy” which I read before her comment (“I think collaboration is the key and your quote is lovely. Thank you for sharing your words and your time”) Her comment was written on my earlier blog We can all help each other grow richer in Ecademy and I was bowled over by her repeating the ‘positive loves in my Life’

Family

Smiles

Sparkle

Wales

Rugby

Then she brought an even bigger smile to my face when I read my words ( written in her tweet ) back to me #In Grand Slam Mode. I loved every moment of good, attractive and skilful rugby played during the #World Cup. So much so, I joined some Welsh rugby groups on LinkedIn only to feel excluded for being social media savvy.

In contrast, I recently attended the Welsh Rugby Players Association Awards in Cardiff. The difference in following the games, sport round ups and scrum five, to meeting a few of the Welsh players in person Sam Warburton for one, was awesome. Sitting not too far away, paving the way for Sam was open side flanker Martyn Williams my other ‘all time’ favourite.

Martyn Williams MBE

Martyn was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to rugby. They are all ambassadors, hugely talented individuals ‘on and off’ the field. I was so emotional and proud to be Welsh and to be among them, reliving some of the world class rugby highlights.

Linking passion to skill and great behaviour ‘on and off’ the field was where the Welsh squad led in the last World Rugby Cup. Being part of this big rugby family and blessed with great elders and coaches guiding them to the future of #Rugby. Graham Henry, Mike Ruddock, Hansen, Howley, Edwards and Mr. Gatland all are building this amazing squad. To see for yourself is to be moved and privileged.

Yesterday was one of the hardest coaching days for me in the work place and so reading the positive reinforcements and her comment on ecademy was to remind me of why I do… what I do and have done since I qualified in 1970

Lawrence Perry’s post What is the value of ecademy? prompted me to follow up on a previous invite to Skype. One Skype later we have brought that connection closer to understanding what is so important to us that adds value.

Deanna Cook and Lawrence Perry thank you for adding yet more richness to my day. Who do you feel has reinforced some positiveness to what can be a gloomy day in this economy?. We can all help each other grow richer in Ecademy

“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give”. Winston Churchill

That wonderful quote among so many more by Winston Churchill sets the tone for this blog.
Yesterday I joined Daniel, Phillip, George, Mike, Richard, James and one other young gentleman supporting Daniel’s Engaging Ecademy Leadership Event in London.

I took the decision to do this after re launching a band new corporate gymnasium facility after three years planning (to get others on board) on Tuesday. That re launch was the fourth in twenty two years and I was delighted for the workforce. The current Plant Manager for this automotive plant is young and like Daniel, works all hours. These young entrepreneurs and managers don’t have the luxury of paid support, so rely on the goodwill of other leaders who can help. I suspect this pattern is seen across the economic ‘picture board’ in this country.

After a long train journey from Swansea, putting a spurt on through tube stations and streets to arrive to Smiley faces was a treat! I have to say to you ‘ beautiful Londoners’ you are amazing, guiding millions of visitors, including the odd Taff through your city, an enormous task.
I learnt much, much more by making this, a four hour trip, to meet Daniel and to hear his passion to make Ecademy succeed was obvious. He’s worth hearing, so please attend ROSEE 3.
One simple task we can all do is click liking ‘a new kid to Ecademy on the block’ blogs. I have started following:

Robert Craven

Mike Morrison

Beth Burgess

Julia Mctaid

Ed Percival

Richard Francis

Vicki (The Property Mermaid) Wusche

Please look at new members and start nurturing their blog attempts. If we all start clicking on two to six more new members blogs, we will help each other grow richer. Daniel is ‘flat out’ so lightening his load would be a plus, even a K+.

I ditto Richard’s comment by repeating ‘Having fun isn’t always a criminal offence’. A gathering of like-minded people. Where else would you have this opportunity?. I had the giggles on more than one occasion, the last being, when the ‘larger than life’ Mike was being a perfect Gent doing his Sir. Walter Raleigh impression by warning me of oncoming puddles before leaving for the tube station!
Which other network would you get such an opportunity to support and watch each other grow richer?

Well-being versus Wealth
André Bieste The real crisis? We stopped being wise! included an inspiring video presentation by Barry Schwartz.
How do we aid economic recovery? How do we heal the patient? By using wisdom in doing the right thing. Kick starting wisdom by being happy about doing the right thing. .
Laying down pages of rules and regulations has literally locked down the entrepreneurial spirit instead of celebrating those who do the right thing. No matter where you live, work or spend recreational time you see the destruction caused by robotic procedures without encouraging the free spirit in doing the right thing.
Frequent visits to a local hospital over the past few months has been an eye opener, witnessing it’s excellence being overshadowed by endless paper work procedures that renders the patient lost!. Robotic nursing care which does little to reassure healing and calmness.

Forever learning and teaching I wrote this Business : It is how you talk to patients that matter! but it seems the point of my message was lost in replies discussing how NHS trust budgets are controlled, missing the real issue completely. So here again giving students experience and encouraging them to do the right thing has been lost in the endless piles of paperwork that needs pure administrative skills to allow the nurse or doctor to get on with healing the patient. Nursing training and specialist skills are vital for patient recovery. Allowing students and employees to think for themselves to learn from improvising and experience under supervision. Lot’s of teaching layers in that module”.

Out of the text book and out of the class room and into the real world of encouraging real recovery. I wrote that blog in the hope it might raise awareness that rules and procedures are guidelines but to be effective you need to win others over. Becoming influential in ‘winning the hearts and minds of people’ encouraging recovery in others is the ultimate end result and for our sick economy. You could relate this ‘sickness’ to any number of economic issues where skills and training are indeed alarmingly non existent. So it’s not surprising that by burying our heads in the sand it leaves us well and truly stuck in a swamp. By not celebrating wisdom in doing the right thing, things have a habit of coming back to bite us on the bum.

We have to invest in our recovery and it starts with us.
Poor health and economic sickness has a habit of crucifying us.

What is it that we in ecademy can do do to help celebrate wisdom in doing the right thing?

Victoria Bullis and I had been connected on Ecademy for sometime before I got in touch with her. I learn’t that you have to ‘nudge’ Victoria as she resides between London and CA, USA. So several e-mails, exchanges and comments on my blogs set the scene.

A few weeks back realising that I was not going to meet up with her in London at ROSEE I e-mailed her with a time to call eachother. After a few initial calls I asked Victoria to coach me on the telephone. This is where the strength of Ecademy lies, reading someones profile and then engaging with them through blogs, you get the measure of the person.
During my coaching session much of ‘me’ I knew but also accepted that like so any “STARS” I was content starring in other people’s stories. Before Easter weekend Victoria e-mailed an article written by Amy Beth O’Brien who loves movies. Amy likens starring in your own life story to becoming the “Star” in your own movie.
“If we looked at our life as a movie, would we see ourselves as the leading role in our own movie, or an extra or supporting player in the lives of those around us? We all have family and friends we support, and for whom we make sacrifices. How much of our time is spent on those responsibilities and obligations, and how much is dedicated to living the scripts of our own lives? Many of us live with the guilt-ridden thesis that if we spend time on our own goals, we are somehow neglecting others. That’s patently false and we need to ensure that we don’t spend our lives playing roles in other people’s movies, to the extent that we’re unable to star in our own.

Next, I took a look at my personal profile, here it is:

My Profile Bio tells you…
“I love life and make the most of every moment. I am fun, spontaneous and enjoy lively conversation. I love sunshine, living by the sea. Watching first class Rugby a must Yippee! Shane Williams, my favourite Rugby player since the First World Rugby Cup. Graham Henry hails Shane Williams as Wales’ best in a generation. “I would rather retire than be retired. But you never say never” Shane Williams Wales’ record try scorer”.

Taking the leaf out of Shane’s book/comment I ‘d repeat “Never say never” I am now starring and directing my own movie. So my questions to you are:

Are you starring in your own movie?. Who would you choose to star alongside you?.
I support:

‘Help’ sung by the Beatles was a smash hit. In those days they rolled one hit out after the other. Today, I read a wonderful article about how difficult it is to ask for help?
Today as our culture becomes more and more entrenched in being independent and yet not so far away there are school leavers, young graduates, middle aged and old struggling through mounting debts, struggling to pay mortgages, rent and bills through lack of jobs. How far do we need to go down the road before we need to ask for help? As a divorced single parent, I learnt the lessons some years ago on humility with dignity. Here are some of my ideas to help us through some difficult changes. To help us grow through the changes.

Do Good and Feel Good.
Face your fears – You can grow through them! Write down a list of what help you need. Talk over your fears with people who care for you and are trustworthy.. Stop blaming everyone else. See changes as a challenge. Take on the challenge. Be Pro Active. Eat well. You can’t get over your fears if you have bad habits, especially when it comes to food. Start eating healthy today and fuel your body for fear-busting. Have patience. You’ll get there Take in plenty of fresh air. Walks in the parks at lunchtimes. Of course insomnia plays havoc with your reserves. Good sleep is essential for stress management and well-being. Meditation and quality breathing techniques can help us all ‘let go’ at any point during the day or night. Get together with friends, networks and form buddy support groups.. Write down your plan. Keeping a notebook of ideas, lists and goals is great for overcoming fears. It’s fun to cross off your

accomplishments too. if only it is at yourself in the mirror. It’s good for you.
Enjoy fun and laughter – Pets and children are great tonics!
Finding out all over again what we are good at and supporting each other, through changes in both work and life, can only be good for the spirit.

Giving and Receiving

Serving and Volunteering.

‘Do Good and Feel Good’
What kind of help do you need?
And finally to thank our family and friends and colleagues who do help and make us feel good. Thank you ecademy owners for this platform in being able to connect with so many others.

Headlines that tell us miracles do happen

Doctors hail ‘miraculous’ Muamba

On Satuday, 17th March, Wales were playing France in the Grand Slam, this was as much drama as any Nation could watch while on another playing fileld we watched a desperate bid to resuscitate this beautiful and gifted young Bolton football player, Fabrice Muamba.
“Fabrice Muamba was “in effect dead” for almost 80 minutes, doctors have said as they hailed his “miraculous” recovery
The cardiologist who leapt from his seat in the crowd and rushed on to the pitch to help the Bolton footballer after he suffered a cardiac arrest during an FA Cup match said he was already making jokes again while in intensive care. ..Dr Andrew Deaner recalled his visit to Muamba after he had just woken up. “I whispered into his ear ‘What’s your name?’,” he said, and the footballer gave his name. Dr Deaner went on: “I said ‘I understand you’re a very good footballer’. And he said ‘I try’.”
His young life already an amazingly courageous one, a life that tells you there is much more work for him to do. When you are CPR and Defib trained (I am ) you value the skills that involve seconds, minutes to save someone’s life. Reading this story about how long Fabrice heart had stopped beating before it restarted, tells you miracles, they do happen. The football and sporting world stopped to watch as this Doctor rushed to save this young man’s life. Imagine stopping a major FA Cup match, or summit to save a Life so precious. Fabrice is clearly loved and cherished by his family, team players, club and the sporting world. So everyone wants him and wills him to recover fully through prayer. Thank God for doctors and their incredible skills. For me this is beyond medical explanation. Anyone who has been this close to death can surely tell us miracles do happen.
I’ve had two road accidents and witnessed a few, and learnt that miracles, they do happen. While doing her degree my daughter followed some research carried out by Staff on our local trauma and intensive care hospital unit about near death experiences that teach us so much more about Life. There is so much more about medicine and life that we have yet to understand.

Do you believe in miracles?
Two yeas ago experiencing some really cold wintery weather I wrote Business : Profiles – The Power Of The Smile!. the power of a Smile can lift the Spirit. (Me included) Feeling sunnier can and does attract new relationships and new clients. Your written word and images reflect your intention and spirit. To promote hope among young job seekers I wrote Business : The art of communication skills in business.

Steve Martin continued to add “Clearly it would be a stretch to suggest that simply decorating your next proposal with smiley faces and positive words will be enough to
ensure that you emerge with
a new client or contract. However, other things being equal, paying attention to the environmental cues that can influence others’ feelings and ethically arranging for those that impact positively to be in place, especially at the point when decisions are made, can make for big differences.

But aside from obvious events such as receiving bad news or falling out with a colleague what other stimuli can influence how we feel and, as a result, behave?”

When Attracting New Clients ~ how do we engage?
