Business : Saying ‘yes’ to everything.

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

Keeping yourself stretched to full max debilitates and generally means “little” time for anyone or anything else.

“I wanted to highlight someone in business, who by her own testimony through trial and error found her answer. How many times have you been caught out saying ‘yes’ to everything both at home, and in business? How debilitating does this become? Being true to yourself means the same quality for your business”.

Karen of Be Fabulous wrote
“My marketing business had taken on quite a few new clients this year and although I knew that there was a possibility I could be spreading myself too thin that draw of extra billings clouded my judgement and I kept saying ‘yes’ to everything.

She concludes by saying “It’s all about being true to yourself, being who are you and not allowing others around you to define you, to control you or to allow them to bring you down. I found my inner fabulousness last week – I believed in myself and I stood up for myself. And boy does it feel good!”

And Boy! does it feel good!

Happy Thursday.

Are you drowning?

Don’t know if anyone else noticed a sudden influx of energy in new blogs and tweets here on the front page yesterday? There has to be something said in favour of a power retreat!

Watching the latest semi finalist rounds on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ who gets your vote? My vote goes to someone who genuinely gives their 150% effort in a performance. The show of hands that went up when Simon Cowell described an incredible performance given by the Pole dancer Alesia Vasmitzel, saying ‘you risked your life for that performance of a lifetime’.

Courting raised hands!
“To get more clients, focus your time and attention on those people who have, in effect, already raised their hands.”  Bernadette wrote this clear and simple business marketing message in her blog.

Hands up those who welcomed this sudden breeze bringing delicious new sounds and activity?

Steve Hall lost all his possessions in a fire – He needs all our support NOW!

Hands Up Baby

Please rally around Steve himself right now, as he faces his latest personal tradegy.

Steve sent me this message and this Clip through twitter and here he is telling us what happened -

“Thanks, Carolyn. Yes, I need everyone’s support this week. On Thursday I heard that a storage centre fire has destroyed absolutely everything I own. 53 yrs up in smoke. I’m numb. I only stored my possessions there so they would be safe whilst I was away travelling. Quite numb.

Yes, I am numb and every few minutes I remember things that were in the storage centre. I put literally everything of value (fiscal or sentimental) in there as I did not want to leave it in the house in case of burglary whilst I cycled my multi-marathons.

So if the scum robbers didn’t get it, the flames did. Ironic! I have seen the fire on YouTube and apparently it took 3 hours for the fire officers to get it under control. Fortunately nobody died or was injured.

Today is cleaning head day and completing the insurance claim. How the heck can you remember in just a few hours every single thing you have collected in 53 year? How many shirts/suits, how many Spanish, Swedish courses, how many books and dictionaries(100s!), how many USB cables etc?

So, after 53 years I am starting from scratch.

Busy week ahead Birmingham, Villa, WBA, Wolves, Walsall.

Can I visit you?

I’ll bounce back.

Kind Regards

Steve Hall

What Fragrance?

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Morning!

I read up on one of my favourite fragrances …> having read
Lizzi’s fragrance blessings tweet this morning. Lizzi asked
‘What fragrances invoke memories for you? I would love to know?’

For me this question applies to both male and female. smile

One of mine is Guerlain’s ( Almond and Sandalwood )

Santalum_paniculatum_1326.jpg
Santalum paniculatum (ʻiliahi), Hawaiʻi.Sandalwood is the name of different fragrant woods. These woods are yielded by trees in the genus Santalum, which are often used for the essential oil it contains. The wood is heavy and yellow in color as well as fine-grained, and unlike many other aromatic woods it retains its fragrance for decades. The sandalwood fragrance is very distinctive and is used in countless applications. Sandalwood has been valued and treasured for many years for its fragrance, carving, medical and religious qualities.

Fragrance

Chess pieces in red sandalwoodSandalwood essential oil provides perfumes with a striking wood base note. Sandalwood smells somewhat like other wood scents, except it has a bright and fresh edge with few natural analogues. When used in smaller proportions in a perfume, it is an excellent fixative to enhance the head space of other fragrances.

The oil from sandalwood is widely used in the cosmetic industry and is expensive. The true sandalwood is a protected species, and demand for it cannot be met in full. Many species of plants are traded under the name of “sandalwood”. Within the genus Santalum alone, there are more than nineteen species that can be called sandalwood. Traders will often accept oil from closely related species, such as various species in the genus Santalum, as well as from unrelated plants such as West Indian Sandalwood (Amyris balsamifera) in the family Rutaceae.

Medicine

Sandalwood essential oil was popular in medicine up to 1920-1930, mostly as an urogenital (internal) and skin (external) antiseptic. Its main component beta-santalol (~90%) has antimicrobial properties. It is used in aromatherapy and to prepare soaps. Due to this antimicrobial activity, it can be used to clear skin from blackheads and spots, but it must always be properly diluted with a carrier oil. Because of its strength, sandalwood oil should never be applied to the skin without being diluted in a carrier oil.

I am naturally curious about it’s medicinal properties. Is’nt Life so wonderful, so full of mystery! Looking forward to my shower then adding fragrances. For me they invoke memories of those very special family moments and significant ‘other’ dinner dates!. And You?

Happy ‘Bank Holiday’ Monday. Csmilex

Sparkly ‘Customer Care’ Logo Brand

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Many moons ago, I was asked by a fellow Chamber Training Associate, to write a Customer Care Module on Stress Management / Relaxation implementation. I tutored Assertiveness, Improved Self Esteem and Stress Management at a local Swansea College at that time.

Handling Difficult Customers meant we looked at who was responsible for Quality in a Customer Service position? There were three sections. Telephone Sales and the Internal and External Customer. We implemented all three modules and applied the training programmes to a large, well known Company being opened in Swansea. Our hard work paid off and we won a National Training Award. Since then I have added Exceptional Customer Service training to that package.

Disarming irate, disgruntled difficult customers with a Smile and a facility to engage is more effective offline than it is online.

I am always on the look out for good examples of Customer Excellence here on ecademy. Being forever creative I also love looking at new logo branding. Amanda Vlahakis owner of Trulyace’ design is such an example.

Nothing succeeds better than a successful Business with Exceptional Customer Care. Top this with a Smile! the most beautiful business attire and you have a win/win formula. Click on these links and enjoy doing the business.

Hello! is it me your looking for?

Oi! What Made You Smile Today?

Can Always Hear a Smile!

How To Alleviate Stress In Business – Especially For Milton and Company

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

It is my intention to go for that ‘va va voom sea air fix’ first thing this morning, having read all about how to make money online through popping a pill which ‘mimics being skinny and living longer!’ I am not convinced that ‘popping a pill’ will give me that same ‘va va voom zest’ that you only get when your feeling rested and kicking!

Let’s face it the osteopathic society constantly hand out newsletters that confirm walking is good for low back pain and the good news is, after much debate over how many working days are lost through LBP read Make osteopathy available on NHS’

So back to the Zest Recipe to start your day or indeed help you to unwind at the end of your day!

Powerwalking

Powerwalking is somewhere between walking and “Speed” – walking. It can be used as a means of building up to jogging or running, or continued as a means to keeping fit and reducing fat.

Fitting it in

Firstly decide on a mix of frequency, intensity, time and type that you can realistically fit into your “Power-walking” week. If you are a beginner or had a long lay off, do not power walk more than three times a week to begin with and build up frequency gradually.
Make sure you have at least one rest day per week.

Getting started

  • It is essential to warm up as it is to warm down.
  • Some “Dynamic Stretching” in the warm up & relaxation, floor stretches in the warm down.
( Will post advice on stretching techniques.)
  • You can use the same kit as for running and jogging. Again, suitable footwear is important, and basically running trainers are the best
  • Wear something reflective if out in the dark.
  • Drink plenty of water; carry some with you, so you can have a drink every 20 minutes or so.
  • Maintain an upright posture with no leaning or swaying.
  • Keep your chin up and look ahead, allowing your head to drop will lead to neck and shoulder problems.
  • Resist the temptation to overstride to the front, this can also cause problems. Concentrate on pushing off the back foot. Lengthening the back stride is more beneficial.
  • Your leading foot should contact at the heel and roll – through. Avoid slapping the whole foot down. If this is a problem check your footwear, is it flexible enough?
  • Swing your arms! keep them bent at 90 deg. at the elbow, this will give more power and speed to your walk.
  • Don’t let your elbows wave out to the side. Your hands should not cross the center line of the front of your body and raise no higher than your breasts.Right, I am off! Powering plus a skip or two and staying ahead!!!

Happy Sunday! I’m off ….> the sun is out!! What are you waiting for? The Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow”

How much fun is taken out of our business?

    Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Do we feel or are we too busy to care what made us ‘tick’ personally which is then reflected in what makes our Business ‘tick?.’

How many of you feel you are on Auto Pilot? Two business phone calls this week, so very different ( one from Spain and the other from Netherlands ) and one testimonial from Belgium for those who don’t get ecademy networking!

Like anyone and everyone I have my ‘off days’ especially when more than one emergency begins to demand my immediate ‘NOW’ attention.

My ethos is very much a preventative one, so when I am up against the ‘knee jerk’ reaction ‘mind set’ I can get bovered!! Does that sound familiar?. This feeling can be physical it can be mental and if it goes on unchecked, becomes a right ‘party pooper’ for your inner flame! Reducing it to a mere flicker. sad

Unlike some of you, I live on my own, so that means I have no one to blame if anything goes wrong and it …> sure can, as we all know. For the second week running my personal space, and ‘home office’ has been invaded and turned ‘bum side up’ for emergency repairs. ..>
Now that tests that neat little world of knowing where I put ‘things’ essential ‘things’ (for a Female it’s more than a wallet, keys and mobile phone!!) and that sets me in a spin. It tests my calm, my inner flame, it tests my being, my personal space, my thoughts even!

Then, I get two phone calls that literally catapult me out …> of my makeshift square to share another persons world! This one..> Stevie ‘Wonder’ Hall asking Can I cycle 3,000 miles to meet you please?. Boy! is he a Stevie Wonder LOL He’s quietly dynamic, while the other was positively buzzing!. I’ll leave you with his Business Story ..>
Cornelis – Be Unrealistic – Think Big

First thing at 7am, I start to write this blog, gathering my thoughts packed into a neat ‘little space’ shutting out the hustle and bustle of workers on Auto Pilot! I decided to update my profile and realised I had missed this #Sparkly testimonial from Giovanni Carbonella “But let me say this. Carolyn = THE SUN!! She tries to make everyday a happy day. Which isn’t easy at all. If you are feeling down and need some sun in your life, she is the one to get!!”

I believe that the Key to happy feelings are doing the things that make your heart sing, with the people who bring you great joy (sharing and being with people you love, like and respect”.)

T’is true ‘ if your aern’t having fun your doing it wrong!.’
Who or what are we trying to avoid?  Happy Wednesday All!   Carolyn
