Education for all children, a reason to celebrate

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

A book worth celebrating, cherishing and circulating across the Globe.

Pakistani schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai to publish a book.

A remarkable story of Malala surviving to sign a record book deal.

Her campaign is to build a future for all children as opposed to destroying their lives through fear.  Teaching lessons through education overcoming lessons taught by fear.

Leading this campaign Malala has set up The Malala Fund, a basic right to education for all children.

In Malala’s words:

‘I hope the book will reach people around the world, so they realise how difficult it is for some children to get access to education’ she said.

‘I want to tell my story, but it will also be the story of 61 million children who can’t get education.

‘I want it to be part of the campaign to give every boy and girl the right to go to school. It is their basic right’.

A remarkable story of a bright Pakistani schoolgirl who was shot in the head by the Taliban and has undergone surgery in Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital in Birmingham.

The red line in this 3D image of the cranial reconstruction surgery planned for Malala shows the approximate journey of the bullet that shattered her skull

Smart ways to re-energise

Nature’s healing powers

If you’re lucky, you do the kind of work that sparks your creativity and makes you want to meet its challenges.

I am an educator first and foremost. My intention is to help you feel more energised for work and personal activities, through self-awareness and self-healing.

Next time you find yourself overwhelmed by work issues, working on your own from home, ask yourself the following question:

How do I get more energy? Then trust your body to give you the answers.

Address an issue that drains you.

Look for help available, if you are in debt.

Ask for support if you want to let go of abusive relationships.

Find new training for that dream job, if you are unhappy in your current one.

Surround yourself with ‘balcony not basement people’. Balcony type people will help you see possibilities in life.

Listen to what your body is telling you.

Learn to nourish yourself by eating super foods. There are lots of recipes in health magazines that will give you ideas.

Change those bad habits of working through lunch and tea breaks.

Ask about your nearest leisure activities:

Take a walk by your favourite sea-front, river or mountain.

If you’re not getting enough sleep, take time to breathe deeply this helps calm the mind and the body.

Help yourself unwind at the end of a hectic day by taking a relaxing bath and listen to soft music.

Keep your lounge space relaxed with some aromatherapy ‘calming’ scented candles.

Mindfully creating better habits by meditating regularly, you too can ‘let go’ of those old habits that no longer work for you..

Being self-aware, having good self-esteem and loving yourself is the ‘key’ for better health.

Once you tune into your body’s signals and know what to do, start doing it.

Acting on your body’s healing messages will re-energise you, help  you feel and be your best.

My Right and Left Brain

Monday, March 18th, 2013

Listen and Learn

There are times we can be overly swamped by a fixed mind-set and it takes either an accident, or a chance meeting to look ‘outside the box’ to shed some new light.

On January 24th, I broke my scaphoid bone in my right hand, after a nasty fall down concrete steps. I am right handed and have since learn’t that personal injury lawyers frequently represent these injuries. Since this accident my resolve, in terms of tasks and writing articles and pretty much doing anything, is being sorely tested.  Thinking with either the left or right  side of my brain, working on the simplest of tasks,  has now become a major project. Reading up on the treatment and healing process and the ways in which our right and left brain work, I came across:

Scans reveal intricate brain wiring

Full Monty

“BBC’s science correspondent Pallab Ghosh gets a look at how his brain is wired when he talked to Professor Van Wedeen. Scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital are pushing brain imaging to its limit using a purpose built scanner. It is one of the most powerful scanners in the world.

Arcs of understanding

The result was a 3D computer image that revealed the important pathways of my brain in vivid colour.

The scanner’s magnets need 22MW of electricity – enough to power a nuclear submarine”.

You can only begin to imagine the exercises I have next in store?

Hard-wired intention in business

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Self-awareness and intention in business.

I am an Educator. My attention and intention is set on co presenting personal development workshops for women in business, with fellow writer, speaker and presenter Marja Botha Von Doorn. Marja and I conduct monthly master mind Skype’s and have set this habit for some months now. Marja has prepared personal development modules for women in business. I too have prepared personal development plus internal and external customer care modules. Over the weekend I started  working on new materials in earnest having read several articles on neurogenesis

I am self-motivated through love as opposed to fear. This love and respect for self and others is the catalyst for a healthier lifestyle in terms of improved physiology, mind and spirit. I created Lifestyle Management in 1989 and re named this business Lifestyle Online having co-owned a cyber training café in 2000. You have heard the business expression of ‘pay it forward’ in terms of referrals in my fitness professional experience ‘love is energy, pass it forward’

Self- awareness is the ‘key’ for personal growth.

Intention

Listening to an audio clip about training the brain by Daniel Goleman, I accept that when fear subsides better habits follow.

“Brains are highly variable changing systems that shift in response to our experiences. This episode of the podcast features an excerpt from their conversation ‘Training the brain’.

https://www.morethansound.net/blog/2012/08/training-the-brain/

Neurogenesis adds power to our understanding of neuroplasticity the brain continually reshapes itself according to the experiences we have. As a coach, you’ve got to engage the person, get them enthused about achieving the goal of change. Here it helps to draw on their dreams, their vision for themselves, where they want to be in the future. Then work from where they are now on what they might improve to help them get where they want to go in life”.

Forming a new habit you have to rehearse it over and over again. For how long and how many times does an action have to be repeated until it’s actually hard-wired? It seems a habit begins to get hard wired the first time you practice it. The more you practice it, the more connectivity. How often you have to repeat it so that it becomes the new default of the brain depends in part on how strong the old habit is that it will replace. It usually takes three to six months of using all naturally occurring practice opportunities before the new habit comes more naturally than the old”.
